Individual Child and Family Centered Therapy
Every child is unique and comes to therapy with a unique set of skills and abilities in addition to areas of difficulty. We provide targeted support for both your child and the family as a whole, focusing on skill acquisition to enable your child’s successful engagement in their daily activities. Targeted intervention might include fine and gross motor skill development to support school readiness, prewriting and handwriting, toilet training support, fussy eating and social/ emotional support in relation to home, community and school-based participation.
Therapy sessions are one hour face to face in addition to 10-15 minutes for the formulation of a customised home/kinder/school program or recommendations. If you would like to discuss flexible options for session structure, we can do this based on you and your child’s needs.

OT Assessments
Occupational Therapy Assessments are important for identifying a child’s individual strengths and areas of difficulty that require intervention. The choice of assessments will be discussed with you and will be based on outcomes from the initial session and areas of priority that you and your child have highlighted.
For example, a formal assessment of your child’s handwriting skills including legibility, letter formation and sizing, spacing, alignment and pencil grip can be conducted using the DASH (Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting). A comprehensive report can be provided to support applications for special considerations in VCE and recommendations for accommodations and support.
We can provide formal assessment for school readiness using the Bracken School Readiness Assessment (BSRA) in addition to formal fine and gross motor skills assessments using the Bruinicks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-3). These assessments support your therapist in analysing the skill areas in need of targeted intervention.

Short Term Intensive Intervention
Waitlists for Occupational Therapy can be lengthy. We want to help families in this situation by providing short term intensive intervention and support tailored to your childs individual needs. These sessions can be provided face to face, via telehealth, phone or a mixture of all.
These services may involve the development of specialised home programs to target specific areas of skill acquisition and occupational engagement.
For the initial 2-3 weeks of intensive short term therapy, your therapist will be available via email or text to guide and support you through the recommended strategies and speciliased home program. For example, this might involve support through toilet training, sleep difficulties, meal time difficulties/ fussy eating, sensory modulation support and regulation.
Please reach out if you would like to discuss the flexible service options available to meet you and your child’s needs.
